So I've decided to start a blog as a result of the urging of my coworker. She says it's a great way to vent so here I go...
I've never had great teeth and fillings have been pretty routine thing for me since childhood. Needless to say that I wasn't surprised to find out at my last check-up that I would need a few fillings. I thought, well that sucks but OK, no surprise. That was a couple weeks ago and since then I have been psyching myself up for the wonderful experience of fillings.
Today was the day. I didn't want to go but who really would. I got to the office fine and I went into my little room and started getting myself mentally prepared to get a few shots (the worst part of the ordeal, I thought) and get back to class. Well, things didn't go as seamlessly as I would have hoped.
The dentist came in and gave me 3 shots in 3 different parts of my mouth. They were not pleasant shots but shots never are pleasant. I made it through the shots and sat there waiting for the numbing effect to take place. It did and I thought that I was good to go.
The dentist started doing my fillings and everything was going great, I couldn't feel a thing, until the last one. He started to drill and I started to feel it. I told him and he gave me another shot to get it more numb. So I thought that this shot would be worth it but I was wrong. After a few minutes he started drilling again and it hurt even worse, so bad that I winced and jumped a little in my seat. The dentist stopped and gave me another shot, which I didn't feel, thankfully, and let me sit for a few minutes. When he came back I felt more numb so I thought I would be fine. He started drilling again and it was better. I could still feel it but I could make it through without crying.
After that I had to head to the class that I TA for. A bunch of students had questions and I couldn't really speak great because my mouth was numb. Fun stuff. I'm also starving but I don't want to eat because I'm afraid that I will dribble my yogurt down my numb chin. So currently I am waiting for the numbness to completely go away so that I can eat. The only problem with being able to feel again is that I'm starting to feel the tender spots from the excessive number of shots that I had to endure.
Pretty much it was the most horrible experience that I have ever had at the dentist. The worst part of it is that I paid a lot of money to be put through an excruciating amount of pain. All I can say is that I better not have any new cavities for a while.
