Hiatus Over

OK I was going to take a break but while on my lunch something outraged me that i must post about.

I don't understand the blatant wasting of resources. Was out to lunch today at 1pm. Temperature 83F. All the sprinklers on campus were on. seriously? Half the water just evaporates and the other half sits on the plants and over heats them. And to top it off we live in a desert! We need to conserve the water for important things. I enjoy having a well kept campus but can we water from 6-9am or pm. At least not at the hottest time of the day.

On Hiatus

The blog thing isn't so fun lately so i'm taking a break.

I'm sick...

Of being the reliable one at work!!! It's 8:40. The office opens at 8. Who is here? Me. Is my boss? No. Does she ever get here before 9 anymore? No. Who else is here? No one. One secretary is volunteering the other is sick. Can't fault the two other secretaries but I'm just super pissed to be the one that always shows up. To be alone. To do some of the work that should be covered by the others. Sorry if i offend either of you. I'm just sitting at my desk alone and i'm pissed that i'm the only one here. Whatever!!!

Symposium Shuttling/Eating Madness.

Last week my office had a big symposium and us secretaries were recruited as drivers of 12 passenger shuttle vans. We rocked it! The free food was a great perk as was getting out of the office for a couple days.

Ok so I've really debated posting about this topic since my topics seem to be rubbing the wrong way lately but I'm going to anyway.

So i was watching the Today show this morning ( i love to watch the today show, it's a little bit of all the good stuff; real news and gossip news combined :) Well this morning they were talking about the post-election situation in Iran and the riots that are going on. They were explaining that the people think that the election was rigged and are calling for a recount. There is talk of a revolution. They're not happy the the old pres got re-elected.

I don't really know much about this guy and my opinions aren't about him or how people are handling the election/post-election there. My beef is with how the US believes it needs to step into any international situation ever. The first thing they talked about after outlining the situation was "what can America do?". We can do nothing. We can let that country run it's course just like every other country has. Just like we have. Let them have their revolution. Let them develop their own form of government that works best for them. WITHOUT INTERFERENCE. The world doesn't need a bunch of mini-me Americas running around. It needs governments that work for the individuals in that country.

As long as a country's government isn't treading on human rights then we don't need to interfere. Iran is already handling their business. People are protesting. A recount of votes has been called and if it comes down to it there will be a revolution and change will occur. We don't need to step in and try to be a catalyst for change. Change has already begun. All we'll do by stepping in is spend the money our country needs in another country, creating and fighting a war that is not our own. More soldiers will leave their families and there will inevitably be some killed. The reasoning for America stepping into to every other country's issues is always that America is the leader of the world. Well can we learn to lead by example and walk a country through any little hiccup it has? Can we learn to let them learn on their own? If they really need our help they can ask.

Note: I'm not anti-help others in need. I'm just pick your help cases wisely. I love America but sometimes i don't love what government does. I assume I'm like any American in this case. So take my opinion for what it is, an opinion, and if you don't like it oh well.

EFY groupies

So here at BYU they host EFY (especially for youth) every summer. From what i gather it's kind of like a spiritual camp. I never went so I'm not entirely sure. Anyway there are 2 college age counselors and a group of about 20-30 14-17 yr olds. It can get pretty obnoxious at times with the chants and such but the kids like it so i guess it's good for them. One thing that i think is amusing about EFY is that the counselors, especially the male ones, get groupies. The teenage girls get crushes on the counselors and tag along with them everywhere they can in the hopes that their perceived romance may blossom into something more when they are a year or two older. Cracks me up. EFY groupies.

Last weekend we canned. We made two batches of jam and one batch of salsa. It was great. A fun productive thing to do.

Just a reminder...

Note to parents: if you are in public and you can't see your child he/she could be being abducted at that very moment.

In the past 24 hours i've seen some concerning parenting practices.

Example 1: yesterday while waiting at customer service for like 30min (yes it sucked) there was a mom and her two daughters approximately ages 6 and 4. the girls were getting antsy so the mom gave the 6 year old a $10 bill and told her to go with her sister to the McDonald's in walmart and get ice cream and she would meet them there. Ok I'm not a mom or anything but isn't that irresponsible? That's just asking for a pedophile to come and steal your children while you're at the service desk.

Example 2: Today on campus there was a little toddler wandering around by herself. It took me and my coworker a few seconds to figure out who she belonged to. They hadn't noticed that she was missing. We kept walking but glanced back several times to see if they had realized yet. It took a good 30 seconds to a minute from the time we noticed the girl to the time the parent started to realize. Even then the mom didn't get up to look she sent her other young children off to look. I don't care if you're on BYU campus and you think that no one would do something like that. You can never be sure. Keep track of your kids.

I would never actually have the guts to do this but often I'm tempted to go and walk children back to their parents and then inform the parents that i could have just stolen their child. That would probably be really mean though.

Oh and I'm just wondering opinions. My co-worker said that maybe as you have more children or as your children get older you worry less. You moms out there, is this a justifiable reason to let your kids go off on their own? I just don't get it. I hope I'm never that irresponsible. Sorry if I'm being harsh.

Everything turned out exactly how i had envisioned it. It was perfect with the lanterns and Christmas lights and marigold center pieces. I loved it! :)
