I'm Falling Apart

For a 23 year old I have some strange physical issues. The most recent has to do with my hip, yes my hip, no I am not 60 I am 23. About 2 weeks ago I woke up and my hip was very stiff and it was slightly painful to walk and pretty painful to climb stairs. I didn't think much of it though. I'm pretty active, I run and climb consistently, so I'm used to the occasional aches and pains of an active life. I did as little as I could to agitate my hip and in a couple of days it got better. By the beginning of the next week I started running again without any thought to my hip issue of the week before. The first day I was fine. The second day, on the other hand, was not a pleasant experience. I started running and didn't really notice anything. By the time I was halfway through with my run I was feeling some discomfort but I just attributed it to the aches of starting running again.

An hour later, after I had gotten all ready for the day, I realized that the hip issue was back and worse than before. By the end of the day I could hardly make it up the 5 stairs to my apartment. Not cool! So again I stayed off it for a few days and it got better. I had even decided to give it about a week to make a full recovery before I started running again. But apparently my body no longer wants me to run.

Yes, a few short days later and I am once again dealing with the hip issue. It isn't as bad as the first or second time but it is noticeable. I'm not too happy about it because it really interferes with my lifestyle and, more than that, it makes me feel OLD!
So I've decided to go see the doctor (not one of my favorite things) to see if they can fix my hip. I'm not looking forward to it at all. I know this is just me being paranoid but I really don't want a hip replacement :)

More to come on my falling apart body after the doctor's appointment next week.

Who knows maybe I'll have to go through some kind of torturous physical therapy like this lady! She seems happy though, at least life isn't all downhill :)

You're probably favoring that hip when you stand. I have the same problem. Is it your right hip? Are you right-handed? The doctor will probably just send you to physical therapy and tell you to take some chondroitin.

I noticed last year that if I stand at attention in my duty gear for any length of time then my left leg goes numb. I thought it was just me, until a couple of my coworkers (one of whom is 24) mentioned that they have the same problem.

Of course, my lifestyle doesn't usually include standing at attention. I wouldn't want to give up running. Good luck with the doc.

Yeah it is my right hip and i tend to stand on it. It doesn't hurt when i just stand though, it's when i walk. Oh well i guess i'll get it figured out.

I have the same problem with my left hip--I attributed it to pregnancy, and it's gotten somewhat better since Jack-Jack came along... what's YOUR excuse?? ;)
