More Hip Drama

This picture makes me feel sick!

I'm OK with this picture.
The report on my appointment with the hip specialist...

Friday was a very traumatic day for me. I went to the appointment and to start the doctor was an hour late. Not a good omen. When I eventually got in he started with the good news. The X-ray doesn't show any fractures, arthritis, or tumors, all very good news. Then he went on to do some little tests where he would move my leg one way and then another to see if it hurt. From those tests he came up with his two hypotheses:

1. The part that hurts on the back side is just inflammation. He gave me a different anti-inflammatory (it cost $60!) which, hopefully will work. If it doesn't work then I have to get a nasty steroid shot.

2. The part that hurts in the front is torn cartilage. I am getting an MRI on Friday to make sure that this is really the problem. For that I have to get a shot in my hip that will put the dye in for the MRI, not fun. If the MRI shows that the cartilage is fixing itself (i don't know how it could do that but whatever) then I'm fine. If it's not then I'll have to get surgery to fix it.

The effect that this had on me was not good. For those of you who don't know my medical phobias here are a few... I hate needles! I am terrified of them. Just thinking about getting those shots makes my stomach sick. I dislike medicine; i try not to take it if i don't have to. The anti-inflammatory has already made me sick (dizzy and nauseous) and I'm not looking forward to the next month of feeling like I'm pregnant. Lastly, and this isn't really a phobia but a result that i hate, i am again restricted to doing practically nothing. The doctor said "If it hurts at all don't do it." I was thinking, OK I guess I'll just lay in bed all day since it is irritating just to walk to school. Right. But I am restricted from climbing now and I'm very not happy about it. Oh well. I am going to do a lot of swimming since that is the only thing that doesn't irritate it at all.

I kept it together through the whole appointment but when i was out of there i called my mom and just broke down. I gave her a good scare with my dramatics :) Then I went and cried and was ridiculously irrational about it all to David. He's great!

The weekend did, however, improve. We headed up to West Valley for the chicken wing eating, game playing, sleepover extravaganza. It was awesome! Happy birthday Wudan!

Excitement!

Wednesday was an interesting day. It started off fine. I went to run a couple errands during work in the rain, it was nice. On the way back to work I stopped in the bathroom and something terrible happened...I dropped my phone in the toilet. So sad and so hilarious all at the same time. So I did my best to salvage my phone but I knew pretty much from the moment it came out of the toilet that it was done for. I dried it off and let it dry out a bit but it didn't help. When I put the battery in it it would just vibrate constantly and didn't access my phonebook or anything. So I got a new phone that night. I have actually been wanting a new phone but wouldn't buy it for myself so this was the perfect excuse. I really like the one I got. It's nice. So if you need a new phone just drop your phone in the toilet! :)

Yesterday was exciting as well. I came into work at 8 and my very pregnant (5 days from her due date) was not there. She had a beautiful baby boy! Congrats Brooke and Zach! That, in and of itself, was exciting but the implications for me were pretty exciting too. Since Brooke is now a mom full time I start to be the full time secretary. I'm pretty excited for my first "real" job. I will get decent pay (for a single person) and benefits. It may be a little boring sometimes but it will be good. And the best part is that I will get to save most of the money I make so that I can buy a house someday! Yay for stability haha :)

Doctor's Note?!

The hip saga continues....

Last week I went to my physical therapy appointment and told the doctor that i wanted to get an X-ray because the exercises weren't really helping. I was nervous that he would give me a hard time about it but I was lucky and he didn't. He just got my appointment made with the orthopedic doctor and I got my X-rays that day.

My appointment with the orthopedic doctor was (or was supposed to be) on Monday. As I was leaving work I heard my phone buzzing. I picked it up and it was a receptionist from the Health Center. She told me that she needed to change my appointment to Friday at 12:40 to meet with the hip specialist. I told her that that won't work because I have class at 1. She told me that they can write me a note. Really?! I'm not in middle school. I'm not worried about getting expelled for missing class; I'm worried about missing important stuff and not doing well on the final. Oh well whatever, I'll get the notes from someone in class. I didn't explain any of this to the receptionist, who I'm sure has teenagers and thinks that she did my a huge favor, I just said OK I'll be there on Friday.

Hopefully they will be able to figure out what is wrong with me then. If not I think that I'm just going to give up and live with the pain. I don't know what else to do. And, just as a side note, my hip hasn't hurt at all since I made the appointment and I'm sure it won't start hurting again until the day after my appointment. Figures.

I'll be home for Christmas...

Yes it is May 29th and yes I bought a ticket to fly home for Christmas. I am aware that it is barely summer and Christmas is not for almost 7 months but I just couldn't beat the price. I got my ticket for $316. I'm not flying into Michigan (I'll just go to Chicago then drive) but it's a great deal! I hate flying home for Christmas because it is so expensive, especially if I fly into my city, Grand Rapids. By just flying to Chicago I saved $300!!! I didn't think that a 30 minute flight from Chicago to GR was worth $300. So I'm pretty pleased about my purchase, a little anxious that it's so far off but hey, I have plenty of time to prepare, right?

The Monster Bares its Ugly Face!

I'm usually a pretty easy going person. I don't usually get offended easily and I'm usually not that cranky except when I'm PMSing. Too much info? Sorry, I just wanted to make it clear to everyone who had to put up with me over the long weekend that I do not hate them, whatever made me mad or annoyed I no longer remember, and no worries, I'll now be back to my usual cheerful, fun-loving, not easily offended self for another month :) Thanks for putting up with me!
