A little pain never hurt anyone!

It's over. I've been under the knife and survived. I actually think that I'm taking everything very well. I didn't end up staying the night in the hospital, I'm very glad about that! I'm just chilling here with Carebear and Alice enjoying my little "vacation" from school and work.

So here's how it went down...
5:00 am the alarm went off. i got up and took a shower (got all clean for the OR) and got ready/nervous.
5:40 am David came to get me and drove me up to the hospital. Carebear was going to do it but then poor Alice got sick and needed her mom.
6:30 am checked into the hospital after waiting in line behind a crotchety old man. then i got to get into my hot hospital gown (I'm lucky I'm so cute or else it would have been really ugly :) then the nurses asked me a bunch of questions and i signed some consent forms, got my IV and had a few more visits from my doctor and the anesthesiologist. I was so proud of myself, i was surprisingly calm and didn't cry even a little bit.
7:15 or 7:30 am surgery. Ahhh. I left David and went into the OR (it's a good thing that i couldn't see, no glasses, or else I'm sure i would have freaked out.) i got all situated on the bed and then before i knew it i was out. Good anesthesiologist!
9:00ish am i wake up in recovery and get taken up to my hospital room. Pretty short surgery, right?! i was still pretty doped up and kept falling asleep but didn't feel like i was breathing right so wanted to keep myself awake. I turned on the TV but i couldn't see anything so i went for the only voice i recognized, Rachel Ray haha. After about an hour of being there i started wondering where David was. the doctor was supposed to go find him after surgery and help him find me.
10:30ish am David showed up in my room. The doctor didn't recognize him in the waiting room so he didn't know that i was done. Eventually he figured it out.
From there i was still pretty tired but not in too much pain. I actually never got more pain meds at all. I was sore but it wasn't intense pain or anything like that. Sukie and Wudan came to visit me on their lunch breaks and that was fun. I think it was more fun for them to see me all doped up but I'm OK with being entertainment.
My doctor stopped by a little later to see how i was doing. He told me that i could go home whenever i felt like it. I have a follow up appointment with him next week. So the physical therapy guy came by to teach me how to use crutches right and then we were off.
It was ridiculously hot outside, not nice, especially since i was a little nauseous from the anesthesia. I made it down to Carebear's fine but my nausea got the better of me when i got a whiff of the lunch she had made earlier. Luckily for me i didn't eat too much of my lunch at the hospital so there wasn't much to come out (sorry to be graphic). David was so great and held my hair while i puked, my hero haha.
After that i was fine and i even ate some crackers later. David stayed with us and watched Iron Man and then he got everything ready for me to go to bed and then left. He was so great all day! He skipped work, class, and karate practice to stay with me and make sure i had everything! He's the best!
The rest of the night consisted of feeling bad for poor Alice and her fever, taking my first pain med and getting all situated for the night.
I slept pretty well and I'm doing well today. I'm a little bit more stiff and sore but that's to be expected. I'm very happy that i still don't really need the pain meds at all though! I would much rather not be on them. I'm doing OK.
So there's the update. I'm alive, I survived. I'll be back to my normal self pretty soon. Thanks for all of the concern!

you know the title to this post is a little ironic, since pain by definition is when someone is hurt... ;)

I find it curious that they wait to teach you how to use crutches correctly until you're in need. Wouldn't it make sense to give you a chance to play with the crutches before you're doped up and in pain?
