I'm so frustrated! David and I took my little brother climbing with one of my friends the other day. I thought "oh climbing, fun" I was so wrong this time! My friend wanted me to lead the first route. I've been practicing leading recently so i said i would try it out. So I'm on the wall i got clipped into the first bolt and I'm trying to move up to the next one and i have no foot holds that will work for me. My "friend" kept telling me to use these little things. Now normally tiny foot holds wouldn't be a big deal. However, the problem was that i couldn't put pressure on my hip that way. I knew that it was just more than i should be doing. I told my friend that i couldn't put weight on my hip like that and that i didn't feel comfortable leading this route. I told him to let me down and he could just lead it. Now anyone who climbs knows that you should really listen to the person climbing, especially if they are leading! Did he listen and let me down? NO! He just kept telling me to keep going. So i did just to get to the top so that i could come down. Luckily i finished the lead without falling but that's not the point. I knew that i had pushed my hip too far.
Fast forward to today (the climb was Wednesday)....My hip has not been this sore since April! I'm never letting my "friend" belay me ever again! And I'm worried that now i will need the big surgery because i pushed myself too far. Perfect that i do this when i have my third opinion
doctors appt next Wednesday. So I'll go in and he'll ask if it hurts and I'll say well it hadn't been for 3 months but now because my idiot friend pushed me climbing it has been hurting for the past week. I just want to scream and cry all at the same time but i realize that doing either of those things will not change the fact that i am once again on leave from climbing and facing a huge surgery! I'm thinking I'll drop my "friend" the next time i belay him. What do you think? (really i would never do that but i think it would be fair!)

Friends that don't listen should not be allowed to belay. I'd say next time you have the opportunity to belay, leave him hanging while you take a break for lunch.
