I got a boo boo!

This entire week has been a week of lots of meetings and lots of free food. The meetings are not so great but the free food is, especially since i have no food in my new apartment! Well, yesterday was no different, there was a meeting, there was food. The difference was that this time i didn't have to go the meeting i just had to help organize the food. We decided to bring a table down the hall to put all of the food on. Something was hilarious to me while we were bringing the table down and i was laughing and hit my chin on the table as we were setting it down. I kind of hurt but not bad and i quickly forgot about it. Today i touched my chin and it was a little tender. yeah i bruised my chin. Awesome! It actually kind of cracks me up! Good times in Teacher Ed.

Can Babies Swear?

This is not Alice but this baby is conveying her emotion very well! :)

Yes! Yes they can!

I was at Carebear and Frik's yesterday (like i always am since I'm living there for the time being) and Carebear went visiting teaching. David and I were playing with Alice. Well, Alice got tired and consequently cranky. She was just not at all happy unless she was playing with someone. So i did a bad thing by trying to bounce her to sleep.

After bouncing for a few seconds she just got angry. Now most babies when they get mad cry right? (really I'm not sure) Well Alice didn't cry she started yelling at me. I swear that she was cussing me out in baby language. Seriously, ask David or Frik. She was pissed! It was just a string of Da Da Ma Ra Bah. Yes i know that this is normal baby language but her tone made all the difference. I was definitely not her favorite person at the time.

However once Frik came downstairs, to see if i was really abusing his child, and took her and started playing with her again she was instantly happy. She even flashed me a big smile. So i won't take it personally but i would like to assert that YES babies can swear!

Great, Wonderful, Spectacular News...

I won't be getting any surgery in the near future!

That's right, today i had my appointment with the other specialist in Murray. He was fantastic! He spent at least 20 minutes in the room with me explaining things to me and talking over my options. He looked at my X-rays and MRI and explained what he saw in them to me. He just helped me understand everything so much more than the other doctor! I'm sure it helps that he doesn't think i should get the horrible, huge surgery ever!

Things i learned at my appointment:

1. I have a genetic defect with my hip sockets that preconditions me to get arthritis. He could tell from the X-ray that my hip socket doesn't allow for my hip ball to rotate fully. The ball collides with the socket and that bone on bone contact will eventually cause arthritis, nothing i can do about it really. This may sound like bad news and i suppose that in the long run it is but since i couldn't have prevented it and there's not much i can do to change it, it's just nice to know what to expect.

2. The tear in my Labrum isn't that bad. I guess it can get completely detached from the bone and that is really bad because then it's always bone on bone but mine is just a little tear, no detachment!

3. Since i'm managing my pain fine now, i shouldn't get surgery until it is painful enough that i don't want to deal with it anymore or if i can't do the things that i want to because of my hip. So, since i'm fine, i haven't had significant pain or discomfort (except last week) since June, i don't have to get the surgery now! Yay. He told me that it might flair up every now and again and then calm down. When it starts doing that too often or the pain worsens that's when i should think about surgery. He also said that i should be fine for at least a year before i really need the surgery! Yay.

4. I should never get the big surgery that the other doctor wanted me to get! How wonderful does that sound?! He said that the big surgery is just too dangerous and it isn't very successful. He actually told me that some insurance companies are beginning to not cover this type of surgery because it isn't successful. When i am ready to have surgery he recommends a mix between the two surgeries. He will clean out the socket with the scope. Then he will cut me open, 3 inches, but instead of taking my hip out of socket they will just put my leg in traction and then shave the bone down so that i can get full range of motion for the ball. The recovery time for this surgery is a lot less. Only 1 month on crutches and 2-3 months for full recovery! Yay for not losing a year of my life in recovery! Sounds great to me!

So that's my happy news, i know what's really wrong, no surgery for now, and a better surgery in the future. It was a great decision to get that third opinion! The best! Dr. Momberger (yup that's his name) you rock!

After the appointment we went to get some breakfast with Amy. Good times! A great morning off!

Woes

Lead Climbing

I'm so frustrated! David and I took my little brother climbing with one of my friends the other day. I thought "oh climbing, fun" I was so wrong this time! My friend wanted me to lead the first route. I've been practicing leading recently so i said i would try it out. So I'm on the wall i got clipped into the first bolt and I'm trying to move up to the next one and i have no foot holds that will work for me. My "friend" kept telling me to use these little things. Now normally tiny foot holds wouldn't be a big deal. However, the problem was that i couldn't put pressure on my hip that way. I knew that it was just more than i should be doing. I told my friend that i couldn't put weight on my hip like that and that i didn't feel comfortable leading this route. I told him to let me down and he could just lead it. Now anyone who climbs knows that you should really listen to the person climbing, especially if they are leading! Did he listen and let me down? NO! He just kept telling me to keep going. So i did just to get to the top so that i could come down. Luckily i finished the lead without falling but that's not the point. I knew that i had pushed my hip too far.

Fast forward to today (the climb was Wednesday)....My hip has not been this sore since April! I'm never letting my "friend" belay me ever again! And I'm worried that now i will need the big surgery because i pushed myself too far. Perfect that i do this when i have my third opinion
doctors appt next Wednesday. So I'll go in and he'll ask if it hurts and I'll say well it hadn't been for 3 months but now because my idiot friend pushed me climbing it has been hurting for the past week. I just want to scream and cry all at the same time but i realize that doing either of those things will not change the fact that i am once again on leave from climbing and facing a huge surgery! I'm thinking I'll drop my "friend" the next time i belay him. What do you think? (really i would never do that but i think it would be fair!)

Beautiful Wyoming?

The trip to Colorado was pretty fun. Definitely didn't get enough sleep but what are vacations for right? It was fun to get out of town for a few days and just have fun time with everyone. The wedding was great too :) The most exciting part of the trip for me was that i found and bought the perfect wedding dress!!! I know it's pretty exciting, huh? :)

David, he's so cute :)

So the title of this post comes from the pictures here. Usually i hate Wyoming. I think it's the most boring ugly state ever and the drive across it always seems to take forever. Well this time it was beautiful! There were some sweet rain clouds in the distance and, combined with the sunset, it made for great picture taking. So here's some proof that Wyoming can actually be beautiful. If you have to drive across that state make it a night trip.

Sweet rain clouds

View of the road. Doesn't look so bad with the clouds huh?

Awesome sunset. It's sweet that the horizon just looks like it's on fire.

After being in the car so long everything just starts to blur :)

Simple Joy

Yesterday i was walking in the Wilk on campus and this cute little Hispanic old man stopped me and said "habla espanol?" I said "si" and then he asked me for directions to the genealogy library and i gave him the directions in Spanish. That's right folks I speak Spanish. It made my day. It was fun to use my Spanish because i actually don't find many opportunities to use it. So that's my fun story from yesterday.

Worst night in a long time...

Carebear and Frik went down to St. George this weekend and I've been Duke sitting. it has just been a couple of days so it's no big deal. Saturday night i was super tired so i fell right asleep on their amazing bed. I slept the whole night without a problem and still had plenty of time Sunday morning to get ready for church. By the end of church however i was super tired again and was ready for a nap.

I took one. Mistake! It was maybe an hour and a half, no longer, but it messed up my whole night. I got to bed a little after 11pm and i just couldn't fall asleep. It was bad. I would fall asleep for 20 minutes or so and then Duke would wake me up or i would have to pee or something and then it would take me forever to get back to sleep. This went on until about 12:30.

I don't like being alone at night anyway and i couldn't sleep and so i started to freak myself out. Totally dumb but i definitely did it. Then it wasn't that i couldn't sleep for whatever reason, it was because i was freaking myself out. So i was trying to figure out what to do. I couldn't call anyone because they were all asleep. I couldn't go home because i was watching Duke. The solution: Take Duke home with me.

Yup that's right i packed up at 1 am and brought Duke to my house because i freaked myself out. You'd never guess I'm 23 huh? By the time i got settled at home and Duke got over the excitement of a new place and calmed down i had about 5 hours to sleep. Not too bad if i had slept that whole time. That, however, did not happen. Duke kept waking up to every new sound and him moving around kept me awake. Then my roommate that gets up at like 4 am got up and Duke scared her to death by just walking up to her. So at that point i was only half asleep because i was trying to keep Duke from bothering her too much. She left the apartment at 6am and had about 50 minutes before my alarm went off. Then Duke had to pee. Sweet!

Unfortunately those last 40 minutes were the most restful of the entire night. I wanted to die when my alarm went off. I figure that overall i got maybe 4 hours of sleep. I changed my cloths, got my lunch ready, traumatized Duke by taking him home only to lock him in the kitchen, then headed, half asleep/dead, off to work. I've made it 34 minutes, only a lot more to go. So far I'm the only one in the office. I'm thinking i should just shut the door, turn off the lights, and crawl under my desk. Sounds like a great idea to me!
